U11’s Orange have played 3 games in a week, here follows a summary of the matches.
Calverton MW
Regrettably your intrepid reporter left work late and got stuck in traffic, so arrived at Calverton with 5 minutes of the first half left to play, and just in time to see Calverton take the lead. A quick chat with Clive sumarised the rest of the first half - Calverton were camped out at the Toton end, and not much else happened.
Happily, though, Toton were able to break through just before the half time whistle, as Will Barker literally walked the ball into a scattered Calverton defence, putting Toton back on a level footing.
Toton started the second half as they ended the first, with switft drives into the Calverton half. A quick pass from Owen through to Will Barker on the outside of the box gave Will plenty of time to take aim at the Calverton goal and let rip with one of the best goals this season, bringing Toton into the lead for the first time in the game.
Calverton were not happy, however, and were quickly pressing the Toton defence, forcing a great save from Matt, and despite that were able to draw back level shortly after.
Play settled into a midfield battle, with neither side giving way until a Calverton through ball forced the Toton defence back on its heels. Calverton continued to press, and apart from a good run from James the play was all theirs, with shots raining down on the Toton goal, including one belter that ricocheted off the crossbar.
James again was making his presence felt at the Calverton end, pressuring the goalie, while at the Toton end, Calverton were finally able to break through and take the lead again. Harry and James continued to maintain the pressure at the Calverton end, but were stopped short with an arguable offside decision.
Calverton, however, were quite content to keep chipping away, and were again able to get through to bring the score up to 4-2, wich is where it stayed until full time.
Not the best result for the boys, but certainly not one they deserved. Good effort from everyone.
Calverton MW Toton kicked off, and Mac and Owen were soon pushing through, only to be as quickly dispossessed by Calverton, who followed up a long lob down the right wing with a long run and a goal, opening the score sheet in Calverton's favour within the first minute.
After the restart, a tussle in midfield left Calverton free to break through and take another shot - this one went wide - but they were soon pressing down the left wing, and this time there was no mistake, with another goal putting Calverton 2-0 up.
Calverton were soon pressing down the centre again, but this time the ball was cleared well up to Owen, who was able to find space to take a shot, which clanged off the post. A further break from Calverton was caught offside, and with the ball quickly sent down the other end, James was able to take a shot on goal, which the Calverton goalie handled well.
Calverton again were pressing back into the Toton half and in front of the Toton goal, with Matt taking care nicely of one shot, and another going wide. The first half came to a close with a pair of Calverton corners, and apair of great saves from Matt.
The second half began with Calverton again charging dwn the right wing and getting another goal, taking the scoreline to 3-0. Toton, though, were revving up, with attempts from Owen, James and Harry all not quite making it in. Calverton were not letting the boys have it their own way, with the ball haing to be cleared off the line after a corner. Toton soon turned a corner, with Will Barker scoring off a penalty after he was brought down in the box. Calverton again were not lying down, and pressed forward with a series of attacks, forcing good saves from Matt and another clearance off Toton goal line.
Calverton were still not letting go, with a pair of wide shots and cross lobbed over the Toton goal. Mac, however, was up for it at the other end, and was able to close the gap to 3-2 with a fine shot - however despite best efforts from everyone on the pitch, 3-2 in Calverton's favour was were the score stayed until full time.
Ravenshead
Toton started well, wth drives down the centre, but the Ravenshead defence were holding steady, and the ball was soon in the Toton half, giing Matt his first action of the game. Toton were again soon pressing dwn the left, but were dispossesed, iving Ravenshead another chance to shoot, this time going wide. James was able to pick up the ball in midfield, and passed through to Will Barker for a shot over the goal - however Toton continued to press, and after a cross from Will Barker, James was able to slot the ball away to put Toton 1 up.
Typically, though, Ravenshead came straight back and levelled the score with a pretty much unstoppable long shot. This signalled a great series of drives from Ravenshead, which allowed them to draw ahead 1-2, as the first half came to a close.
The second half started with a good shot from Ravenshead sailing over the Toton goal, but after a brief scuffle in the Toton area, and lack of ball clearing, Ravenshead were able to draw ahead with another goal.
Toton were not letting the score get the better off them, and were soon pushing back into the Ravenshead half - Will Barker was able to pull one back for Toton with another of what are becoming his trademark free kicks, bringing the score back to 2-3 in Ravenshead's favour. Another effort shortly after from Will Barker forced a great save from the Ravenshead keeper, and a Toton corner let Harry put himself back on the scoresheet after a long drought, and brought Toton back on level terms.
Ravenshead were again able to take the lead in very short order.Best efforts from the Toton forwards came to nothing, and spirits were starting to drop at the Toton end of the park as Ravenshead put another 2 away, leaving the final score at 3-6 in Ravensheads favour.
