Tigers 1 Netherfield 4 (W Barker)
A shorthanded Toton side took to a sluggish pitch today, ready to press on with the cup campaign.

However Netherfield were driving hard towards the Toton goal from the kick-off, and never let up on the pressure through the whole game. Toton pushed on through, with a cross from Owen being edged wide by Joe Dane, and a huge kick from George Barker sailing over the Netherfield goal. The same manouvre from George was repeated a few monents later, but again wasn't on target. Owen and Harry set up a good run down the right wing, before being forced out by a sturdy Netherfield defence. Play was switching directions rapidly, not least due to the high number of foul throws form the Netherfield boys, prompting their manager to suggest they stop trying to be ballerinas an get on with the game.

Netherfield drove back, and while the Toton offisde trap was working well, it wasn't 100% successful, and Netherfield were able to get through. Regrettably on the second occasion they were able to get past Matt, and bring the score to 1-0 in their favour, where it stayed until the half time whistle.

Toton started well in the second half, with a good run from James down the right wing only coming to a halt when James slipped and lost the ball. Netherfield fought back again, and were able to draw ahead with a second goal. Toton continued to battle on, involving the referee at one point when he had the ball kicked against him after a drop ball. Next came the most contentious point of the game - the ball appeared to cross the Netherfield goal line after the goalkeeper fumbled it, but play continued, much to the dismay of the Toton team and supporters.

The Toton team of last year at this point would probably have dropped their heads, but theiy continued to push on, with a good run from George and another from James pressuring the Netherfield back line, but ultimately not breaking through.

Netherfield, however, able to break through again, and quickly brought the score line up to 3-0 in their favour. Toton again were able to keep their heads, and from the restart shot through the Netherfield players like they weren't there, with the ball moving from Owen to James and finally ending up with Will Barker, who was able to put Toton the score sheet without any doubt.

Despite best efforts from the boys, and a couple of good chances that Toton were unable to capitalise on, Netherfield drew further ahead with, in all fairness, a good goal from outside the penalty area. 1-4 was the final score, and it was a tired Toton team that trooped off the pitch at full time - good efforts all round, it just wasn't Toton's day.
