Since Tigers resounding 7-0 victory over Wollaton Hall Green, the Black Team have had a mixed bag during November.
Gedling Southbank Blue 9 Tigers 1 (Harrison)
Tigers met top flight team Gedling Southbank Blue in the County Cup and took a bit of a beating eventually going down 9-1 in a tough contest away from home. Harrison scoring a consolation goal for Tigers. Nathan getting MOM.
Tigers 3 (Will, TJ, Conor) Vikings 0
Back to the league the following week meeting Vikings away at the racecourse on a miserable wet and windy day, the team continued to show their title credentials in a 3-0 victory. Whilst the opposition probed, Tigers stood firm at the back for a pleasing 2nd league clean sheet in a row. Goals from Will Cooper, TJ & Conor Musson took the points and moved Tigers ever closer to 2nd spot in the league as East Valley could only manage a draw with Southchurch. Thomas Howdle giving his best performance of the season for MOM
Tigers 1 (Harrison) Hucknall Sports 4
Another miserable afternoon saw this top of the table clash decided in the last 15 minutes of the game. Despite going behind in the first half, Tigers battled back level before half time with a good finish from Harrison. Tigers stood firm but with 15 minutes left, Hucknall took a crucial lead and as Tigers pushed to get back into the match, Hucknall exposed the gaps and took all 3 points in a crucial win. Conor Musson got a deserved MOM for his dogged performance.
Tigers 3 (Will, Conor, Chris) WB Eagles 0
Tigers shrugged off last weeks defeat and got straight back into the business of winning matches. A team of 12 warriors produced the most pleasing football of this season in the league. Despite relegation for Eagles last season, they came at Tigers early on with confident play. The blacks were guilty of pushing too far upfield from mid-field leaving the back 4 exposed but this was rectified and from thereonin, Tigers totally dominated proceedings.
The inter-passing from the strike force was swift and effective. Will and Harrison totally dominating the wings and Chris and Conor, with some excellent touches, created space and opportunities for all forwards throughout the game. Despite missing several chances early on, Tigers finally took the lead when Will Cooper fired straight over the goalkeepers head from close range for the ball to hit the underside of the bar and drop into the net.
Things got better when Chris was bought down in the box (not given) and the resulting returned ball was lifted cleverly over the excellent WB keeper by Conor Musson to take Tigers into the break at 2-0 Tigers continued to force the play in the second half and the ball spent 28 of the 30 minutes in West Bridgford territory. Tigers back 4 stood solid today. Riley kept the right winger quiet all game, Matthew had an outstanding game at centre half with some thoughtful football to keep WB pinned in their own half throughout the game with long range shots and excellent defensive play. Freddie standing in as centre half played some excellent short balls to release the wingers time after time and Harry Lowe was putting in the most tempting of crosses from the right back position all match long, one of which led to the 3rd goal from Chris. On the rare occasion where WB got a sniff of goal, Thomas Wakelin was like a gazelle off his line and went through everything to make sure his goal wasn’t breached. The heart of the midfield today was ruled by Courtney & Ben, challenging every ball and the pair never stopped running in a fast paced game giving Will, Jack & Harrison freedom to roam down the touchline all day.
Whilst I only usually give MOM to 1 or 2 players in any one game, there were too many to choose from today I have elected to give it to several players.
Men of the match – Harry Lowe – an outstanding display at right back with crosses to die for
Matt Newbould – A colossus at the back and the main reason the ball stayed in the WB half most of the match
Courtney Valentine – Great midfield play all game with some wonderful lay offs
Ben Sharples – Crunching tackles, a mountain of energy, dominated the mid-field
Will Cooper - Got himself into great goal scoring positions, used his head and worked well with the forwards all game.
Chris Monk – The touch of a genius, kills a ball from a 30 yard pass and turns straight into space with the ball, a constant thorn in the side of the opponents.
Well done everyone. Jelly babies please.
